Mazda's October 2000 press release stated that they would only make 175 version VI RZ's. My theory on why that turned out to be wrong is this....dollars (or more correctly, yen!!).
Although production actually started in September, Mazda spent the whole month of October 2000 churning out RZ's. Of the 271 cars they made that month, 168 were RZ's. My guess is that the demand for the cars from the dealers was so high, Mazda decided to continue production into 2001.
The success of the RZ ultimately led to the production of the Spirit R.....
