WHEELS 2016 - Back to OPH! 15 May.

Postby Mark Neal » Fri Apr 29, 2016 12:38 am

Hi all,
WHEELS 2016 is going back to Old Parliament House lawns.
15 May, Details are here.
The Japs cars need to use entrance 1, and we will be there until 2pm. If you plan to leave early... just don't - plenty of spectator and visitor parking around the place.

After the event being held elsewhere for several years, we are going 'home'. The layout is different to previous years so check the maps.
I hope to get to the walk through the week earlier to rep for the mad oil&rice burners.

Any interest?

'We' are thinking of using the event as a platform to promote 'our' annual All Japanese Car and Bike Show, so we may be flying multiple banners.

There is a pre-event walk through this weekend that I plan to attend on our behalf. As I expect other Jap folk will likely not have a rep I'll get the gist for all us Jappers and then try and spread the word.
The organisers are trying to be super-organised hence the pre event stuff, I expect there are pressures from the NCA. If you attend, play by the rules, follow the marshals instructions, park where you are told, and display the event sticker. Otherwise, there is a very strong chance you could be booked, and I'd also not like to play my chances with whatever other powers the NCA people have up their sleeves. Even spectators should double check where they park, assume nothing. Previous events in the Parl triangle seem to suggest the NCA would rather hire parking inspectors and allow people to park then book them, than to have people manage parking.

OK - went on site today. Easy.
* Turn up before 9.15 and bring a drip tray.
* Enter at 'Gate 1' it will be sign posted. It is on 'Parkes Place West' - near the Parl House Rose Gardens.
* Get your parking permit at the entry gate. Presume a gold coin donation.
* Follow the road along to the ponds and then follow the marshals directions. There may be a space marked out for us.
* Park up, reverse in 45degrees, nose facing out. Display the parking permit.
* Stay until at least 2pm.

There will be plenty of sign posting and marshals, but as per every event, help is always welcome.
There will be parking inspectors patrolling the areas. Park in the wrong place on the lawns or not display the permit and you will be booked.
People trailering vehicles onto the site are welcome but get there earlier and then take the tow car over to the back of the Treasury car park.
If there is bad weather, it will be held in the treasury car park, and people will just be directed to par in order of arrival, not in clubs or marques.
Take care driving on the grass, no donuts/heli's/skids - apparently a peanut in a Ferrari did this there on Saturday and the photos and complaints have been lodged with the NCA and the Police.

WHEELS HAS BEEN MOVED

The rain last weekend means that the lawns are no longer able to be used. The new plan is to use the car parks around the treasury building just across the road.
New map and instructions coming tomorrow.

The new location is the Treasury Building carparks, on Newlands Street and Langton Cres.
We were to park on the lawns out the front of the Treasury building, the new location is literally at the back of the building, about 100metres away. Our entry is still via Gate 1 and it will be sign posted. If you are bringing a trailer please be there by 8am, otherwise be there before 9.15. I would presume we should still bring a drip tray, just in case. Stay until at least 2pm.

Update: will be there in the MX5 as the rx2 decided to get fussy about some trivial detail like starting... possibly because it was on a slope. It was fine in the garage minutes beforehand.
