does anyone know what the mixing ratio is for a 12a? i was going to block off the oil feed lines in the weber and add oil in with the petrol, i heard its a better way. whats the ratio like 2% oil or something? also whats the best way to block off the oil feed lines and what do you reckon is it a good idea or not?

The rally car just has a little alloy plate sealed with ultra grey over the hole where the OMP comes out of the timing cover.

I run 100:1 fuel to 2 stroke oil (so in 20L I put in 200ml of oil). It's a pain to premix at the petrol station so I always fill from jerry cans.

I dunno if you need that much oil in a daily since it won't be rev'd to 9k all the time but maybe ask JW.

Premix is better because you can control the amount of oil, it's clean (not from the sump) and you can use an oil that's meant to burn. It is a bit more of a pain because you have to remember to add oil every time you fill up (don't let your mates/family fill up for you coz guaranteed they'll forget).

I still have the OMP running on my 12AT, and also add in about 1:200 Motul Premix

If the issue is trying to link the carb throttle to the metering pump, just dont bother and simply hold it part way open with a cable tie connected to the lower part of the water pump.

Agreed. That's what's done for the 13b in my rx-2.

i put 20L of petrol in and then 200ml of oil in the tank, got it running for a bit then it started blowing so much blue smoke everywhere, then i thought thats too much oil so i put another 20L of petrol in the tank to try to dilute it, so i sandblasted the plugs (because it wasn't firing properly after it started blowing all the smoke) then tried to start it again and it almost did then didn't start, i hate this car. ive suspected for a long time compression is realy low i always have trouble starting it

I presume that when the plugs came out it looked like both leading and trailing were firing? Just wondering if the ignition is up to the task.

100:1 seems fair, and 200:1 and about a 5min run to clean out the fuel lines and even up the dilution should have solved an oil-rich problem. Putting the oil in after the fill up *might* have caused the oil to not disperse evenly, but dropping that much again into it should have shaken stuff up nicely....

The rally car always blows some smoke on start up when I haven't run it for a while. Fills the shed quite nicely (if you like that sort of thing) but clears once the engine gets warm.

I expect having low compression isn't helping with the smoke problem, because tiny amounts of unburnt fuel+oil get past and out the exhaust. That should lessen as the engine heats up and the seals seal (LOL) against the housings bit better. If you do decide to use less oil in your fuel I'd only drop back to 150:1 (150mL in 20L) rather than 200:1.

Timing could also be an issue for you. If it's too advanced or retarded it won't want to start.

100:1 is good for a race car

Ive used this and it blows a little smoke and burns
the s*** out of peoples eyes behind you Cool
Good luck.

its running 200:1 and it blew a lot of smoke on start up today, i took it for a fairly long drive and it came back not blowing any smoke. maybe it needed a drive to mix it all up in the tank. i might add a bit more oil tomorrow try it at 150:1, thanks for all the advise

I have been doing this atleast once a week for 3 years. This is how I make the process bearable.

Buy a 10lt plastic jerry can with a tap.
Buy a quality performance outbourd oil must be TCW3 (Low smoke) and suitable for pre-mix and injectors. $25 for 5 ltrs
find a suitable fuel additive bottle. I use an old octane boost or injector cleaner bottle (500ml).

    empty oil into jerry can
    fill fuel additive bottle.
store bottle in drivers side door pocket (series 5 has one)

Next time you fill the car, it adds 30secs and $2.50 to a fill and you end up with 100:1 approx.
